Where the marks are

DomainWeightRoughly
People33%58 questions
Process41%72 questions
Business Environment26%45 questions

The biggest change from the 2021 outline is Business Environment, which grew from 8% to 26%. Governance, compliance, benefits realisation, organisational change and the external environment now carry a quarter of the exam. Do not leave them for last.

Development approaches

Questions are set in predictive, agile and hybrid contexts. Read the scenario for clues about which approach the project uses (sprints and a product owner point to agile; a signed-off baseline and change control board point to predictive; both together point to hybrid) and answer in that context.

Question styles

PMI uses several formats. Expect mostly single-answer multiple choice, plus some of these:

  • Multiple response: choose two or three correct options; the question tells you how many.
  • Matching: drag items to their pairs.
  • Hotspot: click the right area of a chart or diagram.
  • Limited fill-in: type a short value, usually a calculation result.

How results are reported

There is no published pass mark. You receive an overall pass or fail and a performance rating per domain: Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Aim to be at Target or above in all three domains.

How to use PMPExamPrep with this

  • Our mocks use the same 33/41/26 split and the same pace of 80 seconds per question.
  • The readiness ring weights your domains the same way the exam does.
  • Sit at least one 180-question mock before the real thing so the 240 minutes hold no surprises.
